5 Stars Love it!
This is my favorite workout in my third trimester. It keeps me feeling good. I attribute this workout and the others I do to the reason I am still so mobile and able to do things almost like I usually do. It completely loosens everything up. Say goodbye to backaches and all those other pregnancy aches. I really like the prenatal modification for sun salutations, it is much more effective than the versions on my other workouts. This is a little slow for first and second tri if you usually exercise. If you want a more challenging 1st and 2nd tri workout try Kira Landgolf’s Total Body Tone or Erin O’Brian’s Prenatal Fitness Fix. I learned the hard way to stick with prenatal workouts in pregnancy, regardless of how good you may feel. I tore a muscle from overdoing (tricked by the relaxin I guess) during a regular workout. It took over a month to heal. I haven’t tried the postnatal workout yet, I’ll add a review when I get to that point. This DVD was very worth it. Other good prenatal workouts include Shiva Rea’s prenatal yoga and Crunch Yoga Mama. They are good quality, I used them during both of my pregnancies. If you are an experienced exerciser, they are really best for third tri. Try the ones I recommended above for the earlier days or just go for brisk walks (Leslie Sansone’s walking workouts have been great too!)

5 Stars Great, quick yoga workout
I did yoga for stretching and relaxation fairly often before becoming pregnant. Once my doctor discouraged my regular yoga class, I decided to try a prenatal video. This is one of several I’ve tried and by far my favorite. It is only 30 minutes but still feels like a good yoga workout - you feel relaxed, flexible and centered at the end, not sweaty or exhausted. The queing is good and I find Heather’s voice relaxing. There’s also a postnatal workout on the dvd that I plan to put to use in a few months.

2 Stars Not Great
I bought this in my 3rd trimester and only did it once. I am a big workout DVD fan but this just didn’t do it for me. It was boring and I found it to be of poor quality and a little too “fruity” for my liking.

ZenMama with Rainbeau Mars Prenatal Yoga Workout

ZenMama with Rainbeau Mars Prenatal Yoga Workout

Your pregnancy, one of the most profound and transformational experiences of your life, is the time to take very special care of your baby and yourself. Practicing yoga during pregnancy can help you to become more sensitive to your body’s and your baby’s ever changing needs. In this program yoga instructor Rainbeau Mars provides a safe and effective pre-natal yoga practice that will help you to maintain a strong and centered body and mind. You will work through a sequence of postures that are not only designed to keep you happy in the moment, but also to prepare you for the experience of giving birth. Since your yoga practice during this special time will need to be adjusted depending on which trimester you are in, Rainbeau works with two assistants. Together, the three of them demonstrate how each posture should be practiced according to where you are in your pregnancy. Benefits of pre-natal yoga practice: • Increases endurance and stamina • Builds strength and flexibility • Improves concentration and breath awareness

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars Good for beginners
This video is perfect for someone, like myself, who is not into working out. It would also be great for those of you who work out a lot and would like to have a dvd on hand for relaxation. I alternate this tape with walking daily, and I feel great. I am brand new to yoga, and really enjoyed this video. There is a lot of focus on correct breathing techniques, which makes you feel wonderful. I love the relaxation technique at the end. Having no experience with yoga, I did have a hard time following Rainbeau’s instruction. I recommend watching the video first. I strained my neck trying to look up from one of the poses; three days later I still haven’t gotten the kink out!

4 Stars Challenging, Approachable, Restoring
ZenMama with Rainbeau Mars has grown on me among my small collection of pre-natal yoga videos. I wasn’t convinced at first, and found some of the asanas more challenging than I had hoped for - however, those little challenges have worked themselves out, and it wasn’t enough for me to shelve this video. Now, it’s risen to the top of my list.

Rainbeau Mars uses a variety of asanas, talks them through in a very human, compassionate way, and encourages you to welcome the challenges and breathe through them. At first, I felt she talked too much through the video, but after awhile, I realized that it helped me build a connection to my practice. Also, her talking through shavasana at the end really tuned me into 1) how to relax my body 2) why this is considered such a hard pose, even when it would seem so easy!

I believe this video will be a challenge for those who are not already practicing yoga, or who are new to fitness. Her third trimester accommodations might be useful for those who are in even their first trimester, but need a bit more support through some of the asanas. It might not be as challenging for people who are super-familiar with yoga, but I think that it hits a good happy medium, and wherever you’re at, is a good video to supplement studio practice, or use twice a week (or more) at home.

4 Stars Very pleased
I really enjoy this workout. I am a little familiar with yoga, but have never practiced it before and I found it fairly easy to follow. There are a few parts that I think could have been explained a little better, but after trying it out a couple of times I found them easy to get the hang of. I really liked that Rainbeau had 2 other women with her, and that each of them was in a different spot in their pregnancy so there are different variations shown for each trimester. It wasn’t like some cheesy yoga videos I’ve seen before, but very calming and relaxing. I would definitely recommend this video to a friend.

5 Stars great
This is the only prenatal yoga video I’ve found that I like. Let it be said, I am not the hugest yoga fan to begin with, so I am quite picky about it. I just force myself to do it bc I know it is good for me. Anyways, I don’t mind doing ZenMama because it’s not as corny as a lot of other vids and bc find Rainbeau Mars voice very soothing.

3 Stars Good workout but not very technical
I must admit I like the actual routine in this video. But I am not sure I feel comfortable saying this is a good beginner video because the routine is easy and basic, but the instructions Rainbeau gives are not really that great and really lack technique. She doesn’t name most of the poses which means you need to be watching to see what she is doing, which is a bit annoying and a problem in many poses. Her technique is a little poor, and her verbage while instructing the routine is a little off and sometimes annoying because it doesn’t really flow.

If you want to be technical about how you move throughout the routine watch the girl in back with the red hair and blue leotard.

There are also parts of the workout that if you have a bad back, as I do, and have never been to a formal yoga class, you are likely to hurt your back as she does not tell you to gently roll up or give you any of the gentle instruction that allows you to save yourself the back pain when doing yoga. Just be aware.

Other than the lack of technique and formal titles for poses I think this is a good video, but not necessarily a good one if you are a true blue beginner as it does not explain enough IMO.

5 Stars Must have for Pregnancy
I used this DVD nearly everyday of my pregnancy(first child). It is very relaxing provides just enough of the appropriate conditioning for someone who is preparing to give birth.

The squatting pose felt a little silly to me, but I was so grateful for it during labor. My daughter was born with her hand on her head and her elbow next to her ear. I had to do some serious squatting to avoid a c-section, and I believe this DVD was essential in preparing me.

My pregnancy was great - my weight gain was text book, I never had any back pain or any swelling, I did get some leg cramps, but only if I skipped a workout - I really think this DVD played a huge roll in how comfortable I was during pregnancy.

When I was pregnant, I thought the fact that this comes from Crunch indicates it should be more challenging. Take my advice, when you’re pregnant you don’t need challenging you need relaxing. This DVD will help you maintain your physical fitness and prepare you for birth.

4 Stars not a heart pumper but a good stretch
If you are looking for a good stretch and a chance for light exertion this video is for you. There are examples of every trimester in the video with good ideas on how to modify for a less strenuous workout. In my opinion, this video could be done at all stages of pregnancy even by those totally new to yoga. It is a very easy, slow paced routine. The instructor gives useful cues and is informative.

3 Stars OK, but instructor is annoying
I wasn’t crazy about this DVD. The instructor is very annoying. She makes suggestions about pregnancy and labor-related things, and giggles as she says them, like she’s insecure about what she says so she can’t act serious about it. I appreciated the variety of body types shown and that they had a woman doing the poses in a modified manner. I found the whole atmosphere to be too “hip gym”, rather than relaxing, meditative yoga. I also found the workout to be too easy, with very little focus on the all-important Kegels. I much prefer Shiva Rea’s yoga workout.

4 Stars Great for all stages of pregnancy
I think this is a great video to follow for all stages of pregnancy. They use women who are in various trimesters and it has modified poses - very easy to follow.

3 Stars Good
It was okay but I thought the positions weren’t held for long. I like when the instructor gives detailed information and that wasn’t the case.

Prenatal Vinyasa Yoga Jennifer Wolfe

Prenatal Vinyasa Yoga Jennifer Wolfe

Namaste, welcome to prenatal Vinyasa Yoga. My name is Jennifer Wolfe and I am a prenatal and vinyasa yoga instructor, a doula, a childbirth educator, a hypnotherapist, and a mother.

I have worked with hundreds of pregnant women before, during and after the birth of their babies and have seen the wonderful benefits that doing yoga while pregnant can have on your body, your birth experience, and your recovery from childbirth.

This DVD was specifically developed for women who have been practicing Vinyasa flow, Ashtanga, or Power Yoga before they were pregnant but can also be used for women who practice other forms of yoga or beginners who wish to build strength and flexibility. If you are a beginner please use the 3rd trimester modifications demonstrated by Binna. This will allow you to gain strength and flexibility safely and once you feel comfortable with the routine you can move to the 1st or 2nd trimester modifications as appropriate.

Although yoga is a safe form of exercise for pregnant women, every woman’s body is different and requires attention and awareness during any exercise to ensure the body’s well being. Please obtain permission from your doctor, midwife or health provider before doing any prenatal exercise and most important, listen to your body.

*****Also Available look for Jennifer’s Prenatal Vinyasa Yoga ~ Short Forms which includes 3 DIFFERENT PRACTICES:

User Ratings and Reviews

2 Stars Repetitive, Quick Pace, Appropriate for Fit, Proficient Yoginis Looking for a Challenge
The back of the DVD, as well as a majority of the Amazon reviews state that this video is for people who have been practicing yoga for awhile, and are familiar with more strenuous yoga. I considered myself more in that category than I probably should have. I’ve been doing prenatal yoga in a Power Vinyasa studio for a month now, and have been practicing using Rainbeau Mar’s ZenMama and Anna Getty’s Pre and Post-Natal Work out for twice a week, for six months. I thought this would be enough, but not enough for Jennifer Wolfe’s video.

The reflux I’ve been experiencing as I’ve neared my third trimester DEFINITELY flared up during practice, and if it hadn’t been for padding my knees (something I’ve been doing through my classes and videos), I don’t know how I could have got through as far as I did (1 hr mark.) Unlike my first experiences with the studio classes, and other previously mentioned videos, I felt my first time with this video feeling hurried, out of sync, uncomfortable (reflux) and overwhelmed. Maybe it’s just being pregnant, but I expect a little pampering with my practice during this time, which is something that Anna Getty and Rainbeau Mars communicate very well through their videos, and Jennifer Wolfe does not.

If this video interests you, and you’re fit and well practiced, then know that this is not a well produced video, and it’s not simple to just skip straight to the practice at the exact point you want. Also, if you need more visual cues (or are more practiced with the asana names to clue you in), these are few and far between, and the camera angle isn’t always good at showing the appropriate alignment (and there is little verbal coaching as to what you should be feeling to clue you in and self-adjust.) There is a lot of repetition, so if you’re more practiced in Ashtanga, this might be up your alley. However, if you believe variety is the spice of life, I echo other reviewers and tell you that you won’t find it here.

5 Stars Hard Core Prenatal Yoga
Loved this video, until I became too big to continue doing it. It’s about 1.5 hours long, so make sure you have enough time, but it’s quite the prenatal workout, especially compared to the Gaiam video. Although later in my pregnancy that became what I preferred because it’s more restorative and slow placed. For those of you wanting a challenging prego-safe workout, I highly recommend this one.

5 Stars great for experienced practitioners
I’ve taken yoga for years, and was put off by the idea of taking a pre-natal yoga class where I’d be re-learning mountain pose and the like, and barely getting a workout. My yoga instructor recommended this video, and I absolutely love it (and the “short forms” video by the same instructor). It’s hard enough to make me work, and offers great variations for different stages of pregnancy. If you’re already familiar with Yoga and are looking to keep your practice going through your pregnancy, this is the DVD for you!

2 Stars Prenatal Yoga
I purchased this in my second trimester. I had no idea which prenatal yoga video to purchase so I read reviews and chose this one. I have had moderate yoga experience and love yoga in general.

This video does not bring me the same joy in doing yoga as usual. It is too long and monotonous, I cannot seem to get through it in one sitting. Not because of fatigue but because of boredom. It is unfortunate that I did not buy another video, although I’m still not sure which video would suite me best. Hard to make good decisions with no previews online.

4 Stars Good workout, but long
I enjoyed this yoga workout. It is challenging and has modifications for each trimester. The only downside is that it is a lengthy workout (over an hour), so that makes it difficult to do during the work week. But it makes a great Saturday morning workout.
